The NHSDA is a survey of the civilian,
noninstitutionalized population of the United States, age 12 and
over. The data will be used to estimate the prevalence of
cigarette, alcohol, and illicit drug use and abuse of licit drugs.
The results are used by SAMHSA, ONDCP, other Federal agencies, and
other researchers and organizations to establish policy, direct
program activities, and better allocate resources. A 200-household
field test of a computer-assisted data collection methodology will
also be conducted.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
