OMB appreciates
detailed response to OMB questions on future developments in hull
identification system provided in response to questions on DOT's
Information Simplification Program on June 27, 1997. We would be
interested in keeping abreast of Coast Guard intentions in this
area in conjunction with the recent Supplemental Notice of
Rulemaking. We also intend to consult with Coast Guard on a
possible plan for the consoditation of collections of infromation
in CFR Part 33, in which case this collection might be incorporated
into the concolidated package.

Manufacturers of recreational boats
are subject to Coast Guard safety standards and regulations in 33
CFR parts 181 and 183. The regulations require the display of
various labels which provide safety information to the boating
public; evidence compliance with applicable regulations; provide
information to manufacturers, dealers, and installers of associated
equipment; and uniquely identify each boat.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
