Occupational asthma is one of the most
commonly diagnosed occupational diseases and has been reported to
be the largest source of respiratory disease compensation claims,
surpassing asbestosis and silicosis, in several countries. Early
recognition and termination of exposures may prevent development of
chronic irreversible respiratory effects. Chronic impairment should
be preventable utilizing early detection and exposure control, but
approaches to worker screening have not been adequately defined.
