This is the second large anonymous mail survey to be sent to a random sample of blood donors at five U.S. geographically diverse blood centers participating in the NHLBI Retrovirus Epidemiology Donor Study (REDS) contract and at five blood centers in non-REDS regions. Data will be used to monitor the safety of the U.S. blood supply and will facilitate the development, evaluation, and refinement of educational, recruitment, and qualification strategies for U.S. blood donors.
