This information
collection is given a limited term approval in light of the planned
implementation of the EFAST system. The EFAST system should make
the 5500 report more rapidly available. PBGC should consider
changing the requirement in its regulation regarding resubmission
of 5500 forms for this specific purpose since the information
should already be available. Future submission for approval of this
information collection should reflect consideration of making this
change.

The information required by this
regulation is needed to protect the interests of plan participants
and to prevent unreasonable loss to the multiemployer insurance
system. The PBGC uses the information to assess the likelihood of
benefit reductions or suspensions under a terminating plan and the
need for PBGC financial assistance to the plan. Respondents are
terminating multiemployer pension plans.
