This is a request for clearance for the voluntary collection of acute Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) data from individuals and organizations involved in the swine industry. Acute PRRS may represent the emergence of a new pathogen and may be the start of a major national epidemic. This syndrome is characterized by high levels of sow abortions, sow deaths, and preweaning piglet deaths in swine herds of all sizes. Information from this data collection activity would aid in early control or eradication of acute PRRS.
