add a question on section 8 housing as a follow- up to the low rent
question. Other changes to the questionnaire, to bring ACS more in
line wit h current thinking on the welfare reform questions will be
addres sed in the 2000 ACS package.

The American Community Survey is a
monthly household survey. This survey, as part of the Continuous
Measurement System, is a new approach for collecting accurate,
timely information needed for critical Government functions. The
1999 American Community Survey will be the first year of the 3-year
comparison phase during which the Census Bureau will use the data
collected in the ACS to compare with data collected in the
decennial census in 2000. The survey will include a new set of
approximately 30,000 households a month and 2,500 persons in group
quarters each month.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
