Under a scientific research exemption,
any person may catch, possess, retain, and land any regulated
species in which an archival tag has been affixed or implanted,
provided that the person immediately reports the landing of such
fish to NMFS. In addition, any person affixing or implanting an
archival tag into a regulated species would be required to provide
written notification to NMFS in advance of commencing the activity
and, upon completion of the activity, must provide a written report
to NMFS.
