Abstract: The Minimum Data Set (MDS), patient assessment for the 5th, 30th, and 60th day following the admission of a skilled nursing facility (SNF) admission, is required in order to determine the patient classification and the appropriate payment to be made to the SNF. Currently, SNFs are required to complete the MDS only for the 14th day and 90th day following admission. Without the additional assessment, the SNF would not be adequately paid for the services rendered to the beneficiaries.
