One of the primary media through which numerous infectious or communicable diseases of swine is transmitted is raw garbage. 9 CFR part 166 implements the provisions of the Swine Health Protection Act. Public Law 96-488 requires all garbage to be treated to destroy infectious agents before it is fed to swine.
