Under authority of the Marine Mammal
Protection Act, the Service added paragraph (f) to the regulations
at 50 CFR 18.23 to gather data on the Native subsistence hunt for
polar bear, sea otter, and walrus to determine what effect the
harvest is having on these populations. This data will increase the
Service's ability to manage these marine mammals.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
