Terms of Clearance: Approved as amended by and consistent with ED's memo to OMB of 1/5/99. In addition, ED will, by the next submission of this approval request, develop a process whereby LEAs have the option of reporting information to SEAs in an electronic format and SEAs have the option of fowarding the information to ED in an electronic format. Consistent with ED's 1/5 memo, OMB has made an adjustment to the burden hour total in this approval.

Abstract: This information will be used to make funding decisions, to inform the Congress on the status of limited English proficient (LEP) students statewide, and to inform Congress and other entities of the progress of LEP students with each State. The respondents are SEAs charged with the authority to provide technical assistance to LEAs and to collect data on LEP population. The attached information collection falls under the streamlined clearance process for discretionary grant information collections, 1890-0001.
