Abstract: The proposed registration regulations would provide a foundation for a regulatory program that would be an important tool in preventing the transmission of communicable diseases. Documentation of donor suitabilty determinations assures the user that all of the donor's medical history and social behavior has been reviewed for high risk for or clinical evidence of communicable diseases and that all of the required testing has been completed. Without this information, FDA could not effectively prevent the transmission of communicable disease or monitor compliance with the future regulations.
