The major goal of this project is to
increase the use of protective eye wear among carpenters by
developing theory-based safety messages tailored to workers,
supervisors, and contractors. The United Brotherhood of Carpenters
Health and Safety Fund of North America has developed field
techniques for assessing safety eye wear use and have estimated
that only about 50% of carpenters wear safety eye protection during
hazardous tasks. This project will develop targeted eye safety
messages to improve the use of safety eye wear and reduce eye
