The Comprehensive Survey of the
American Public will assess the opinions and attitudes of a
representative sample of the American public regarding the National
Park System. Visitor and non-visitor survey instruments will be
employed for the following objectives: 1) To improve NPS
understanding of the general public; 2) to describe public views
about parks and park management; and 3) to develop a baseline to
monitor changes in public opinion over time. 3,500 individuals will
be interviewed by telephone in early 2000. Data will be available
at the regional and national level.
