Abstract: OCC regulations require that a national bank obtain OCC approval prior to establishing or acquiring an operating subsidiary, or commencing a new activity in an operating subsidiary. Federal law requires that a national bank obtain OCC approval to acquire control of; or hold an interest in, a financial subsidiary. The OCC will use this information to confirm that the proposed activity is legally permissible.
