Terms of Clearance: Pursuant to 5 CFR 1320, this collection of information is not app roved. This information fails the "practical utility" requiremen t of the PRA because it can not achieve non-biased results. This collection proposes to use a "quota sample", which can not p roduce results that can be generalized to the universe of study ( see OMB PRA guidance). Further, the agency has not provided to O MB or the public (or even developed) the sampling plan and survey instrument for the national survey. This information must be developed and included in the supporting sta tement of the information collection package when an agency seeks approval to collect information under the PRA.

Abstract: This new collection will provide attitude, value, and use information from southeast Alaska residents and visitors and from the national public to assist Forest Service identify public concerns with management of the Tongass National Forest. The need for scientifically valid information in this topical area was identified in the recently completed Tongass Land Management Plan. Information collected will be used to inform day to day management decisions, review plan implementation and to develop the future direction for this national forest.
