This collection is approved with changes as indicated on changed pages sent from CDC to OMB on 5/31/00 and 6/1/00. Changes were made to: - pages 6, 8, and 10 of the supporting statement - questions 8b, 14b, 14c, 15b, 15c, 19b, and 19c of the survey - the reply postcard - diary form An 80% response rate is expected, based on past results with similar populations. However, if a low response rate occurs as a result of this survey, CDC will note that this is a possible indication of a biased sample. In this case CDC will not use the survey to draw conclusions about the general population.

This study proposes to methodically test the validity of the commonly made assumption that secondary exposures such as bathing will not result in a significant increase in arsenic intake over background dietary levels. Specifically, we are interested in assessing urine arsenic levels among individuals where ingestion of arsenic containing water is conrolled by either POU treatment or use of bottled water, combined with use of short-term diaries to record diet, water consumption, and bathing frequency. This request is for a 3 year approval.
