CDC proposes a study to assess the
extent to which jails are following the CDC 1996 guidelines for the
control and prevention of tuberculosis in jails. Jails are critical
settings in which to provide interventions for the prevention and
treatment of tuberculosis. the study will involve a mail survey to
46 large jail systems and that local public health departments in
jurisdictions with TB case rates above the national average. A
subset of respondents will receive site visits. CDC wil use the
information to assess the adequacy of TB control measures in the
