MMS uses the information to (1)
determine the necessity for well temporary abandonment and
temporary abandonment will not be a significant threat to other
uses of the OCS; (2) verify that respondents are diligently
pursuing the final disposition of well and have performed temporary
plugging of the wellbore; (3) ensure platform or pipeline removal
activities are properly performed; and (4) to ensure that
decommissioning a platform in place will not be a hazard to
navigation and commercial fishing operations or interfere with
other uses of the OCS. Respondents are Outer Continental Shelf
Federal oil and gas and sulphur lessees.
