FRA has revised the regulation
governing train and locomotive power braking systems to include
provisions pertaining to the use and design of two-way end-of-train
telemetry devices (two-way EOTs). Two-way EOTs provide locomotive
engineers with the capability of initiating an emergency brake
application that commences at the reat of the train. The revisions
are designed to improve the safety of railroad operations by
requiring the use of these devices on a variety of freight
trains.
