This ICR is approved for three years. When FERC resubmits this ICR for renewal, it must evaluate, after consulting with respondents, the burden estimates for reporting and recordkeeping requirements. Specifically, FERC should consider the non-labor costs associated with record retention. FERC must list the names, affiliations, and phone numbers of the respondents it contacted. Although FERC projects a reduction in burden hours and costs due to reduced record retention requirements in it's supporting statement, burden hours were not adjusted due to the lack of information on the ratio of staffing hours to rcords storage. Should FERC obtain such information, and if such information is consistent with the projections made available for public commnet through this supporting statemetn, FERC may submit a correction worksheet to OMB to adjust the burden hours associated with this ICR.

RM99-8-000 (Order No. 617) revised FERC's records retention regulations for public utilities and licensses, natural gas and oil pipeline companies. These records serve as the basis for required rate filings and reports submitted to FERC. The records are retained in order to be reviewed by FERC staff during periodic compliance reviews, special analyses performed as deemed necessary by FERC and serve as a basis in compliant proceedings. Order No. 617 makes significant reductions in retention requirements and eliminates unnecessary burdens.
