The information collected from U.S.
exporters (U.S. Principal Parties in Interest) or their forwarding
or other agents through the Shipper's Export Declaration Program or
the Automated Export System Program is used to compile the official
United States government statistics on U.S. exports. The statistics
along with U.S. import statistics are used to calculate the U.S.
trade balance, a leading economic indicator and part of the GDP
compilation. The data are also used extensively in U.S. trade
policy decisions and to monitor international trade
agreements.
