The information collected from U.S. exporters (U.S. Principal Parties in Interest) or their forwarding or other agents through the Shipper's Export Declaration Program or the Automated Export System Program is used to compile the official United States government statistics on U.S. exports. The statistics along with U.S. import statistics are used to calculate the U.S. trade balance, a leading economic indicator and part of the GDP compilation. The data are also used extensively in U.S. trade policy decisions and to monitor international trade agreements.
