The Patent and Trademark Office (PTO)
records patent and trademark assignment documents; title documents,
such as liens, titles, mergers, etc.; and other documents from the
public, Federal agencies, Government-owned, or
Government-controlled corporations. The documents show the transfer
of ownership for patent, patent applications, or trademarks from
one entity to another. The PTO records assignments for both patents
and trademarks. Once the documents are recorded, they are available
to the public. The only exception are those documents which are
sealed under secrecy orders in accorandce with 37 CFR
3.54.
