Because of a lack of ongoing standardized comprehensive surveillance of occupational exposures and infections in a national network of hospitals, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) developed such a system that focuses on surveillance of exposures and infections among hospital-based health care workers (HCWs). This system is currently called the National Surveillance System for Hospital Health Care Workers, or NaSH (OMB 0920-0417), to be called the including long-term care facilities, same-day surgical centers, home health providers, dental clinics, and other health care facilities.
