The Bureau of Reclamation is funding a
study to be conducted by the University of Arizona on mountain lion
sightings and the public view of mountain loins near Tucson,
Arizona, a rapidly growing urban area. Reclamation's Tucson
Aqueduct was constructed to provide water for municipal,
industrial, and agricultural users in the Tucson metropolitan area.
The aqueduct has the potential to hinder the movement of a number
of wildlife species. This study will give us an understanding of
the effects of the Tucson Aqueduct on lion movements and habitat
fragmentation.
