The US EPA, under the Safe Drinking Water Act, requires informa- tion on regulated categories of radionuclides to be collected to ensure protection of human health. The radionuclides regula- tion includes information collection requirements for four categories of radionuclide standards: gross alpha (minus uranium and radon), combined radiums (226 and 228), beta/photon emitters and uranium. Three of these radionuclides standards (gross alpha, combined radiums and the beta/photon emitters) have been regulated since 1976.
