Abstract: A nested case-control study will be conducted to examine the risk of lung cancer mortality among non-metal miners exposed to diesel exhaust. Detailed exposure information will be collected on cigarette smoking and other potential confounders (e.g. high-risk occupations for lung cancer; exposure to asbestos, silica and arsenic; dietary factors; medical history of nonmalignant respiratory dieases; and each subject's lifetime exposure to diesel exhaust).
