This survey will collect information on state police policies for collecting demographic data on motorists involved in traffic stops. Numerous states have enacted legislation requiring state, and in some cases local, police to collect data on the race of each motorist stopped during a traffic encounter. These policies have been implemented in specific states in response to the issue of racial profiling.
