Terms of Clearance: ED has indicated in a memo dated 7/2/01 that the department will issue guidance to schools on what aggregate data must be reported in terms of race and ethnicity, by Fall 2001. If the department is not going to be able to issue that guidance by the end of 2001 then ED shall inform OMB as soon as possible and develop a timeline with OMB that is acceptable to OMB. This collection will eventually be phased out, as states obtain the necessary technology to take advantage of the consolidated data collection approved under 1820-0644.
