10 CFR 70 contains mandatory
requirements for material control and accounting of special nuclear
material. Reporting require- ments at 10 CFR 70.52(a) and (b) are
being eliminated and others are being moved to 10 CFR 74. The
information collected is used to ensure that public health and
safety is protected, that licensees are in compliance, and to
satisfy obligations of the US agreements with the IAEA.
