Rule 17a-1 requires that all national securities associations, registered clearing agencies, and the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board keep on file for period of five years, two years in an accessible place, all documents which they make or receive respecting their self-regulatory activities. Rule 17a-1 is being amended to account for the preservation of records of determinations as to whether a security index is narrow-based made under proposed Rule 3a55-1 by certain national securities exchanges, including notice-registered national securities exchanges under Section 6(g) of the Exchange Act.
