The Rule requires manufacturers to disclose energy information about major household appliances to enable consumers purchasing appliances to compare energy use or efficiency of competing models. The goal of the Rule is to promote energy conservation by permitting and encouraging consumers to compare the energy efficiency or consumption (or water use) of competing products and to weigh that with other product features before making purchases.
