Terms of Clearance: As per previous terms of clearance, SSA will continue efforts to develop digital certificate authentication for on-line trans- actions to introduce this technology as soon as possible. OMB comments SSA on their efforts at automation thus far, and encourages further development. SSA will report on its progress and implementation as part of the next request for clearance.

Abstract: SSA provides verification of benefits to individuals receiving title II and/or title XVI benefits. To provide the public a convenient means of requesting benefit information, SSA developed an electronic request form that allows beneficiaries to request the information through the Internet. The information collected on the electronic screens is used by SSA to process the request for a benefit verification statement. To ensure confidentiality, the statement will be mailed to the recipient's address shown in SSA's records.
