In accordance with 5 CFR 1320, this information collection is approved for a period of 1 year to allow the agency to ensure compliance with the grant streamlining requirements under P.L. 106-107 and E-Grants initiative. Upon resubmission, the agency should use a generic form and application process, or explain to OMB why use of that process is not feasible for this individual collection. In addition, the agency is reminded to ensure that an OMB number and burden statement appear on each form or instructions. Also, the agency is reminded that the costs in item 14 of the 83-I form should not include the hours recorded in item 13 multiplied by an hourly wage rate.

The application kit will be mailed to all State and local law enforcement entities that receive appropriated funding. The purpose of the Technology Initiative is to encourage the continued development of technologies and automated systems to assist state and local law enforcement agencies in meeting public safety and crime prevention need
