Abstract: The Survey of Inmates in State & Federal Correctional Facilities, 2003, will measure changes in the characteristics of State and Federal prison inmates since the 1997 survey. Computer-assisted personal interviews will be conducted with a nationally representative sample of 20,000 inmates in 330 State and Federal prisons. The questionnaire includes items on individual & socioeconomic charactersitics; current offense and victims of the offense; criminal history; alcohol/drug use and treatment; medical and mental health conditions; and activities in prison.
