request to extend this information collection, the commission shall
describe efforts currently underway to accomodate the electronic
submission of data and to what extent those efforts have decreased
burden. In particular, FERC shall describe efforts to reduce the
number of copies currently required by relying on electronic
submission and agency personnel to create extra copies as
needed.

Information is used to carry out the
requirements of Part 1, Section 4(e), 6 and 13 of the Federal Power
Act. These statutes direct that a hydropower license may be
surrendered upon applica- tion and where agreement exists between
FERC and the licensee or by implied surrender. The information is
collected in the form of a written application which is then used
by FERC staff to determine the broad impact of such surrender and
by careful review of the prepared application and by solicitation
of public and agency comments through the issuance of a public
notice and the preparation of the Surrender of License
Order.
