AIDS Data are collected by 59
reporting areas (50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico,
and 7 jurisdictions in the Pacific and Caribbean) on newly reported
AIDS cases using the Adult and Pediatric Confidential HIV/AIDS Case
Report. HIV Data are collected by 37 areas. A comprehensive
software package, the HIV/AIDS Reporting System (HARS), data entry
and electronic transmission of case reports to CDC. These data
detect changes in HIV/Aids incidence, morbidity, and mortality. The
data assist federal, state, and local public health officials, and
policy makers in program planning, evaluation, and resource
allocation.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that
the collection of information encompassed by this request complies
with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR
1320.8(b)(3).
