AIDS Data are collected by 59 reporting areas (50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 7 jurisdictions in the Pacific and Caribbean) on newly reported AIDS cases using the Adult and Pediatric Confidential HIV/AIDS Case Report. HIV Data are collected by 37 areas. A comprehensive software package, the HIV/AIDS Reporting System (HARS), data entry and electronic transmission of case reports to CDC. These data detect changes in HIV/Aids incidence, morbidity, and mortality. The data assist federal, state, and local public health officials, and policy makers in program planning, evaluation, and resource allocation.
