This information
collection request is approved, conditional upon the following
terms of clearance: (1) CMS will continue to work with providers to
ensure that beneficiaries have access to the information that they
need to make informed treatment decisions, while also ensuring that
the paperwork burden placed on providers does not detract from the
provision of quality health care. (2) CMS will provide OMB with a
revised copy of the notice that includes the clarifying editorial
changes requested by commenters and agreed upon by OMB and CMS in
12/2002.

Hospitals participating in the
Medicare program are required to distribute the "Important Message
From Medicare" to all Medicare beneficiaries (including those
enrolled in a Medicare managed care health plan). Hospitals must
distribute this notice at or about the time of a Medicare
beneficiary's admission or during the course of his or her hospital
