The paucity of data on the prevalence
of mental health disorders and the mental health needs among youth
in the juvenile justice system highlights the need for additional
research in this area. Data collection will be focused on the
understudied areas of the South, Southwest, and Northwest.
Information will be used to develop a model that provides a
blueprint for the provision of mental health services to youth in
the juvenile justice system. Respondents will include: youth in
secure juvenile correctional, detention facilities and
community-based programs; program staff (including program director
and senior clinical staff), and
