HINTS is intended to be a biennial, cross-sectional probability survey of the U.S. civilian adult population. The purpose of funding a national survey to assess health communication processes is to provide communication researchers with unbiased population estimates of the prevalence of cancer-relevant knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. The second cycle of HINTS II, is a survey of 7,000 respondents and has two priorities: (1) to preserve the methodological integrity of the survey and (2) to experiment with alternatives modes of data collection.
