Approved consistent with the following terms per teleconference between OMB and CDC: 1. OMB approves this survey for purposes of a. "promoting a better understanding of current infection control practices among veterinarians" and b. facilitating a better understanding of zoonotic disease transmission and perceived risks for infection among veterinarians. OMB however does not approve this survey for purposes of "policy planning regarding universal healthcare precautions for the practice of veterinary medicine" of Federal "national guidelines on infection control practices," due to study limitations including survey mode, list frame, and anticipated response rates. 2. As soon as possible but no later than 01/07/05 CDC will provide OMB with a revised version of the enrollment cover letter.

Recent outbreaks of emerging zoonotic diseases such as SARS, Monkeypox, and Avian Influenza have highlighted that the veterinary community is vulnerable to infection with these diseases. The proposed survey ask veterinarians about infection control procedures employed in their clinics and the use of personal protective equipment to prevent zoonotic disease transmission. This study is needed to determine whether national guidelines on infection control practices in veterinary settings are needed.
