collection is approved for a period of two years, conditional upon
the following terms of clearance: 1) BLS and Census will continue
their efforts to improve response rates including potential
enhancements to ATUS methodology and respondent materials; 2) BLS
will provide copies of letters and other respondent materials to
OMB when these are revised; and 3) BLS and Census will continue
their research into potential non-response and non-coverage bias in
ATUS and provide OMB with reports or memos detailing findings when
they are completed.

The time use data collected in the
ATUS help researchers determine how the population in the United
States uses its time participating in such activities as paid work,
child care, housework, volunteering socializng, and traveling.
Published estimates will include comparisons of time use across
demographic characteristics such as age, sex, race, educational
attainment, and labor force status.
