Abstract: The current United States guidelines for animal rabies prevention and control recommend that bats be excluded from houses and adjacent structures to prevent direct association with humans. The objectives of this study are to 1) Assess the ecology of co-habitation of bats and humans in residences, including knowledge and attitudes toward roosts, attempts to exterminate bats, and frequency of bat contact with persons; 2) Generate hypotheses regarding the public health implications of cohabitation of bats and humans.
