Section 1833(t)(6) of the Social Security Act provides for transitional pass-through payments for certain drugs and biologicals. Hospitals, drug companies, and physicians can apply for pass-through payment for drugs and biological used with services covered under the Outpatient Prospective Payment System. CMS uses the information to determine if the criteria for a transitional pass-through payment are met and the necessary of an interim HCPCS code.
