All 50 states and the District of
Columbia will be surveyed to determine current Medicaid Coverage
for tobacco dependence treatment. The survey will assess progress
toward reaching the Healthy People 2010 goal of providing
comprehensive coverage in all states. Medicaid covers approximately
11.5 million individuals, 36% of which are smokers. As of the
previous survey only 36 states provided coverage for medications
and 11 for counseling, only 2 states provided comprehensive
coverage. Fifteen states did not provide any coverage. Once the
