Abstract: The Social Security Act and the Code of Federal Regulations provide that an individual receiving spousal benefits and concurrently receiving a Government pension based on his/her own earnings not covered by Social Security may have the amount of his or her Social Security benefit reduced by two-thirds the amount of his/her Government pension. Form SSA-3885 asks questions pertaining to Government pension and is used to determine the amount of offset, if applicable.
