The USDA is responsible for controlling and eliminating domestic diseases such as tuberculosis, as well as preventing the introduction of exotic diseases such as foot and mouth disease (FMD) and other foreign diseases. APHIS is prohibiting the importation of all used farm equipment into the US from regions in which FMD exists, unless the equipment has been cleaned free of all soil and other particulate material in the exporting region.
