Census 2000 taught us important lessons emphasizing the need to begin planning and development early in the decade. The 2006 Census Test, which is a significant component of advanced planning for the 2010 Census, will evaluate new and refined procedures and methodologies including: the increased use of automation for data collection, and methods for improving coverage and self-response that are designed to reduce costs while improving coverage and data quality.
