This
programmatic clearance is approved under the following terms of
clearance. Prior to the use of each instrument, the agency must
complete the previously specified form for this clearance and
provide it, with the usual supporting statement, to the agency
paperwork clearance officer, who must sign the form and send the
form, survey instruments, and supporting statement to the OIRA
Records Management Center. OIRA will inform the agency by email
when review is complete. The agency may not use OMB Control Number
0694-0119 on the instrument until OIRA has approved its use. This
clearance only covers surveys requested by the Department of
Defense with respect to the capability of a specific industry to
support the national defense. Surveys requested by other entities
or under authority other than the Defense Production Act of 1950,
as amended, must comply with procedures in 5 CFR 1320.

Commerce/BIS, in coordination with
other government agencies and private entities, conducts
assessments of U.S. industries deemed critical to our national
security. The information gathered is needed to assess the health
and competitiveness as well as the needs of the targeted industry
sector in order to maintain a strong U.S. industrial base.
